Brockport, NY - The Brockport women's basketball defeated Buffalo State at home, 76-65, on Tuesday, January 9
th. The Golden Eagles moved to 6-6 overall with a 2-3 mark in SUNYAC play.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 6-point advantage going into the second, thanks to three-point field goals from
Stephanie Jean-Baptiste,
Hali Lucia, and
Zoe Zutes.
After a high-scoring second quarter that saw both teams score 23 points each, the Golden Eagles would hold the Bengals to just 22.7% shooting in the third. Their defense was key in moving ahead by 15 points entering the fourth.
Brockport would keep pace in the fourth quarter, with
Madison Misser extending the lead to 17 with 2:27 remaining to put the game out of reach.
Maddy Stearns led the charge for Buffalo State, scoring 20 points and adding 11 rebounds in a double-double effort.
Zoe Zutes provided her best outing as a Golden Eagle, scoring a career-high 23 points and filling out the stat sheet with seven rebounds, four assists, and three blocks. Zutes also set career-highs in field goals made (9), and three-pointers made (3).
Stephanie Jean-Baptiste was effective all night, dropping 18 points on 50% shooting from long distance (3-for-6), and chipping in for four rebounds.
Zairea Hannah was busy as usual on the glass, grabbing a game-high 18 rebounds to go with nine points. Hannah was dynamic throughout, setting a career-high in assists (6) and blocks (7).
Three-point shooting was the difference for the Green and Gold, outshooting Buffalo State 39.1% (9-for-23) to 26.3% (5-for-19) from downtown.
The Golden Eagles will head to Plattsburgh on Friday, January 12
th at 5:30 pm to take on the Cardinals.
