Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's tennis team clinches the No. 6 seed for the Empire 8 Championships after a 9-0 win over Utica to finish the regular season. The Golden Eagles will enter the postseason after going 3-7 with a 3-5 mark in the E8.
On the home tennis courts, Brockport took care of business with strong play in both doubles and singles competition.
In first doubles, it was
Cara Vasile and
Olivia Raschiatore taking the win, 8-3.
Lena Paolicelli and
Kathleen Rogers teamed up in second doubles for another Brockport point, winning 8-4.
In third doubles, the Golden Eagles completed the sweep of doubles action.
Olivia Chiu and
Sophie Langdon got the win, 8-2.
Playing solo,
Olivia Raschiatore won in two sets 6-2, 6-1 in the first singles match.
Cara Vasile picked up her second win of the day with a 6-2, 6-2 showing in second singles.
Lena Paolicelli fought hard in three sets for the win in third singles. She took the first set 6-2, lost the second 6-4, and won the tiebreaker 10-6.
In the fourth singles slot, it was
Sophie Langdon scoring Brockport another point with a 6-1, 6-1 win.
Grace Trebilcock continues her strong singles season with a 6-0, 6-0 win in the fifth match.
Closing out the singles lineup on Saturday was
Erin McMichael in the sixth spot. Helping complete the 9-0 sweep over the Pioneers, she won her matchup 6-0, 6-0.
The Golden Eagles now begin preparing for the postseason as a first-year member of the Empire 8 conference. As the No. 6 seed, they will be traveling to the No. 3 seeded Nazareth Golden Flyers for round one of the Empire 8 Championships on Tuesday, October 15
th.
