Volleyball Sweeps Elmira at Home on Saturday

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport volleyball team picked up another win in conference play, defeating Elmira at home, 3-0. Brockport improves to 10-6 overall and 3-1 in the Empire 8.

It was all Brockport right from the start, as the squad dominated the first set, 25-14. The second set saw more of the same from the home team, taking a 2-0 lead after winning the second, 25-11.

The visiting Soaring Eagles made it a close call in the third set, hoping to avoid the sweep. However, the Green and Gold did just enough to win the third, 28-26, to complete the sweep 3-0.

On the stat sheet, the Golden Eagles held the advantage across the board. They had the edge 45-30 in points, 28-20 in kills, 8-7 in aces, 9-3 in blocks, 27-20 in assists, and 42-41 in digs.

Alexis Sison and Alenna Williamson both totaled nine kills to lead the Brockport attack. Sison contributed elsewhere as well with eight digs, two total blocks, and one ace. Williamson also had two blocks in the match, matching Sison with one solo block each.

Alyssa Bruno was incredibly effective in the middle blocker spot against Elmira. She finished with five total blocks, coming from three solo and two assisted denials. Bruno also had three kills offensively.

The trio of Kaitlyn Jewett, Lauryn Forand, and Grace Letterman held it down in the setter role. Jewett led the group with 11 assists, while Forand and Letterman had nine and six respectively. Jewett and Letterman were both credited with one service ace as well.

Elsie Logan made an impact both offensively and of course defensively as the Brockport libero for the match. She got down for a match-high 19 digs with her effort for the Green and Gold. On the serve she had three aces and she snuck in a kill to aid the scoring efforts.

The Golden Eagles will now prepare to face a familiar foe in Geneseo on Wednesday, October 16th. They will travel to Geneseo for the match, scheduled for a 6pm start, as the two programs faceoff as members of the Empire 8 for the first time.
