Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport volleyball team remains unbeaten on its home floor after Friday night's, 3-1, win over Utica. The squad is now 11-6 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
It was a huge night for Brockport's
Alenna Williamson at The Vlog. She notched a career-high 25 kills on an incredible .420 hitting percentage to lead the way. Her 25 kills match the eighth best single match total in program history (K. Barber – 2015). Williamson also contributed defensively with nine digs and three block assists.
Brockport got off to a great start in the first set, going on a 9-1 run to begin the night against the Pioneers. This set up a quick 1-0 lead for the Golden Eagles, taking the opening set, 25-12.
As the second set got going, Utica fought hard looking to prevent a 2-0 deficit on the road. Tight from start to finish, the Pioneers pulled out the 25-21 win to tie the match up at 1-1.
The third set was another incredibly tight game between the two E8 opponents. Tied at 25-25, the Golden Eagles pulled out the win, 27-25. They would hold a 2-1 lead going into the fourth set.
The fans saw more of the same in the fourth, with neither team giving an inch. The score would be tied at 18-18, before Brockport put together a match-clinching run. Taking the fourth set, 25-22, Brockport took the win, 3-1, at home in E8 play.
Offensively the Golden Eagles also got 10 kills from
Alexis Sison to go with the 25 from Williamson.
Lauren Emke (.400) had seven kills and
Alyssa Bruno (.308) had six. It was
Kaitlyn Jewett and (32) and
Lauryn Forand (19) setting the hitters up, combining for 51 assists. Jewett also chimed in on the serve with four aces.
On the other side of the action it was another great effort from libero
Elsie Logan. She led Brockport in the match with 23 digs.
Alexis Sison (9) and
Gianna Felipe (8) both mad a strong effort with digs as well.
Three different Golden Eagles totaled three total blocks in front of the home crowd.
Alyssa Bruno had the team's lone solo block to go with a pair of assists. Both
Alenna Williamson and
Lauren Emke got up for three block assists.
Now the winners of four in a row, the Brockport Golden Eagles are back at home on Saturday for another E8 contest. They host the SUNY Poly Wildcats for a 1pm start at The Vlog.
