Brockport, NY - The SUNY Brockport women's soccer team took a trip to Houghton on Wednesday night, where the squad shutout the Highlanders, 3-0. The Golden Eagles sit at 8-0-1 overall and 4-0 in the Empire 8 conference. This match marks the team's ninth straight shutout to start the 2024 season, and it is the program's second time ever being undefeated through nine games (1983).
Autumn Edwards wasted no time to open up the scoring in the first half with an unassisted goal just 5:44 into the match. Edwards wasn't the only one with an unassisted goal in the first half.
Lyndsey Miller fired a shot past the goalkeeper, bringing the Golden Eagles up to a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
Coming back from the 15-minute intermission, it wasn't long before E8 Offensive Player of the Week,
Jaylah Cossin, got going. Cossin found the back of the net at 57:50 with a goal assisted by
Katie Hotaling. This would be the final score of the contest, creating the final of 3-0.
In the net for Brockport was
Karissa Champion for a total of 15 minutes and
Madeline McCrosson for a total of 75 minutes with two saves. The duo combined for yet another shutout to keep the streak alive.
The Green and Gold had a total of 11 shots with seven on goal while the Highlanders took five with just two on goal. Brockport was also awarded four corner kicks compared to Houghton's two.
Up Next – The team is headed to Utica this Saturday, October 5th to face the SUNY Poly Wildcats for a 3pm start. Early next week the Golden Eagles are on the road again to Rochester to play the Nazareth Golden Flyers on Wednesday, October 9th at 4pm.
