Volleyball Falls to Nazareth on the Road

Rochester, NY – The SUNY Brockport volleyball team fell on the road Saturday in a head to head matchup against Nazareth, 3-1. Brockport moves to 1-1 in Empire 8 play following the loss and holds an 8-6 record overall.
 
The Golden Eagles got off to a hot start to begin the match at the Robert A. Kidera Gym. They won the first set, 25-15, to take a quick 1-0 lead. However, the Golden Flyers responded in the second, 25-19, to tie the score at 1-1.
 
Taking advantage of the momentum from the second set, Nazareth would have a strong showing in the third as well. The home team took a 2-1 lead, after snagging the second set, 25-16. Brockport fought hard to stay alive, but ultimately lost the fourth set, 25-23. Nazareth would defend its home floor with the 3-1 win.
 
Elsie Logan led all players in the match with 24 digs from her libero spot. She even chipped in two assists and one kill. Alenna Williamson had 12 kills to lead the attack for the Green and Gold. Offensively she had a .219 hitting percentage to go with a pair of block assists on defense.
 
Several Golden Eagles battled at the net for blocks in this one. Lauren Emke had four block assists to lead the squad. Anna Cascapera totaled three blocks (1 solo, 2 assisted), while Maddy Howell had two block assists. Alexis Sison and Ellie Cusmano were both credited with one block assist.
 
Sison also helped defensively with 12 digs to go with seven kills and a pair of aces. Gianna Felipe registered 10 digs. The setting duo of Lauryn Forand (19) and Kaitlyn Jewett (13) combined for 32 assists. Jewett led the team with three service aces, while Jewett and Forand both added eight digs.
 
Maddy Howell and Lauren Emke were among Brockport's most efficient options offensively on the day. Howell totaled eight kills on just 18 attempts (.333 pct), while Emke had five kills on 15 tries (.333 pct).
 
The Golden Eagles are on the road for their next matchup. They return to action on Friday, October 11th against Keuka College at 6pm for more Empire 8 play.
