Brockport, NY – The Golden Eagle men's basketball team lost a tough battle in the home opener to Oswego on Tuesday night, 78-72. With the loss, Brockport moves to 1-4 overall on the season.
 
Zachary Rice led the Green and Gold scoring with 16 on the night thanks to 4-for-7 shooting from long range. Jacob Oka also had an efficient game scoring, finishing with 12 points on 5-for-9 from the floor. Oka made an impact on the defensive interior as well with three blocks.
 
Despite some shooting troubles in this one, Tony Arnold (5 points) contributed heavily all over the court for the Golden Eagles. He led the squad with seven steals, seven assists, and eight rebounds. Alex Tavarez made some key shots, going a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.
 
The visiting Lakers got out to an early lead, 9-3, in the contest as this former SUNYAC rivalry got started. Although Brockport never let the deficit reach double-digits, the home team still trailed nearly the entire first half. Oswego would hold on to a 35-29 advantage at the break.
 
In the second half, the Golden Eagles made multiple runs to make it a one possession game. However, Oswego continued to answer to hold its slim lead on the scoreboard. The Lakers hit seven of their 12 makes from downtown in the second half to hold off Brockport's effort to comeback. Oswego did just enough to maintain its lead through the finish line for a 6-point victory.
 
The Golden Eagles are now preparing for another road trip for their next outing. They will travel to face St. Joseph's University of Long Island on Tuesday, November 26^th at 5pm.
