Brockport, NY - On Wednesday night, the SUNY Brockport women's soccer team hosted Nazareth Golden Flyers for the Empire 8 Semifinals. The match was decided in a shootout, with Nazareth outlasting Brockport, 7-6.
Beating Brockport in the semifinals, Nazareth survives and advances to the Empire 8 Championship Game on Saturday, November 9th.
The two E8 foes battled hard in the opening period, playing a physical first half. After 45 minutes of action, the match remained scoreless at 0-0 going into halftime.

Early on in the second half, it was more of the same physicality from the first. While both teams had scoring chances, some strong work defensively kept the scoreboard empty.
The Golden Eagles had multiple quality chances, but Nazareth's Annika Monfort stepped up for several big saves. With 15 minutes left in regulation, the teams were still deadlocked at 0-0.
Brockport continued to apply pressure for the majority of the time left on the clock. However, Monfort continued to make clutch stops for the Golden Flyers.
After 90 scoreless minutes in this E8 Semifinal match, the game went into overtime. The two overtime periods saw more of the same, leading the teams to a shootout to decide who would advance to the E8 Finals.
The Golden Flyers would outlast Brockport in the shootout, 7-6, to pull out the victory in the semifinals. In PKs the Golden Eagles saw makes from Autumn Edwards, Megan Gerber, Katie Hotaling, Madison Hughes, Lyndsey Miller, and Sierra Edwards. Nazareth one-upped Brockport with makes from Grace Palczewski, Tatum Overton, Haley, Dennison, Shannon Sgombick, Kiyomi Mastro, Camryn Schiavitti, and Lauryn Obey.
Madeline McCrosson made three saves for Brockport in the contest and got one stop during the PK shootout. Nazareth's Annika Monfort had five saves, while Delaney Malone stepped in to get the two game-winning saves during the shootout.
While the Golden Flyers advance to the Empire 8 Finals this weekend, Brockport's run in the conference tournament has come to a close. The Golden Eagles now await the possibility of earning an at-large bid for the NCAA Tournament.
