Brockport, NY - The Brockport men's lacrosse team will return to the turf on Saturday, February 17
th in Victor, NY to take on St. John Fisher at the Pinnacle Athletic Campus at 1 p.m.
2023 Recap: The Golden Eagles finished 4-10 overall with a 2-5 SUNYAC record, missing out on the conference tournament with a 6
th place finish. The Green and Gold earned three 2nd-Team All-Conference selections. The group was made up of seniors
Cameron Kuzniar and
Anthony McGee, as well as returning midfielder
Nate Askin.
Jhovanny Olivares led Brockport in total points (30), averaging over two points per game.
Anthony McGee led in caused turnovers (21) and ground balls (47).
Cameron Kuzniar played 817:29 of 846:41 goalie minutes between the pipes for Brockport, starting all 14 games and making 209 saves on the year.
Schedule Highlights: Brockport's regular season consists of seven home games and eight away contests. The season opens with six consecutive non-conference games before entering SUNYAC play. Brockport will open play at home against Clarkson and Ohio Northern in consecutive homes games on February 28
th and March 2nd. Brockport will then hit the road for five of their next seven games. Four of their final six games of the regular season will be back at home, including Senior Day against Potsdam on Saturday April 27
th. Brockport's SUNYAC opener is on the road at Oswego on March 23rd. The 2024 SUNYAC Championship Semifinals will be played on May 1
st and the championship game is set for May 4
th. The conference tournament winner earns an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Returning Production: The Golden Eagles will return three of its top six scorers from the 2023 campaign, including
Nate Askin (22G-7A-29P),
Ben Hay (14G-6A-20P), and
Jackson Worden (6G-8A-14P). The Golden Eagles also return many of their top defensive and faceoff personnel, made up of
Tim Hubbard (14 starts, 20 ground balls),
Bobby Alexander (21 ground balls, 42.1 FO%),
Andrew DiPalma (17 ground balls, 73 faceoffs won), and
Blake Palozzi (19 ground balls, 4 caused turnovers).
Breakout Candidate: Playing in just seven games in 2023 (3 starts),
Jackson Worden looks poised for a breakout year following a two point per game pace in 2023. In a three-game stretch against Alfred, Clarkson, and Wooster, Worden posted 13 points (6 goals, 7 assists), leading Brockport in points between the three games. Worden enters his senior season poised to be an everyday player for the Green and Gold.
Scouting St. John Fisher: The Cardinals finished with an unblemished 7-0 record in Empire 8 play (10-10 overall) in route to an Empire 8 championship and a NCAA Tournament appearance. Leading scorers Timmy Salit (31G-41G-72P) and Brady Mason (43G-14A-57p) are back for the Cardinals, as well as starting goalie Ben Hammond. The Golden Eagles will enter Saturday's matchup looking for its first win over St. John Fisher since the 2016 season.
