Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Brockport Takes Down Geneseo in Overtime, Clinches Home Game for 1st Round of SUNYAC Tournament

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's basketball team has officially clinched the No. 4 seed for the conference tournament, after beating Geneseo in overtime on Senior Day, 66-57. The Golden Eagles will host No. 5 Oswego on Tuesday, February 20th for the 1st Round of the SUNYAC Tournament.

The squad will finish the regular season at 14-11 overall and 10-8 in the SUNYAC, winning four in a row heading into the postseason. Brockport snaps an 8-game losing streak in the head-to-head series with Geneseo, beating the Knights for the first time since January of 2020.

Head Coach Corinne Jones sets a new career-best at Brockport for wins in a single season and is heading to the postseason for her seventh time in eight seasons. It will be the first time in her tenure with the Golden Eagles that the team will host a conference tournament game.

Following the Senior Day celebration for Kelsey Morgans, Zairea Hannah, Hali Lucia, and Zoe Zutes, Brockport came out hot in the first. The home team outscored Geneseo, 23-12, in the opening period for an early double-digit lead.

The second quarter was close, as the visiting Knights began to close the gap. Geneseo scored early and often to begin the period before Brockport had an answer. Stephanie Jean-Baptiste halted the run with a pair of jumpers, helping the squad hold onto a halftime lead of 39-32.

After combining for 71 points in the first half, neither team was able to score much in the third as the game slowed down. It became a defensive battle, with Brockport scoring just five points while holding Geneseo to just three points in the quarter.

The Knights came on strong in the fourth, making a big run when it was needed most. After the Golden Eagles took at 13-point lead, Geneseo fought back to tie the game at 55-55 in the final minute thanks to a 3-pointer from Hannah Stockman. The game entered overtime after a missed last second shot from the Green and Gold.

In the 5-minute overtime, Brockport would put the game away. Seniors Kelsey Morgans and Zoe Zutes both hit timely shots from long range, as the Golden Eagles outscore Geneseo, 11-2, in the overtime. They went on to secure the 9-point victory to celebrate Senior Day the right way.

Stephanie Jean-Baptiste notched a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Zoe Zutes finished with a team-high 16 points to go with her seven boards.

Anna Lee hit double figures as well, putting up 10 points in the game. Kelsey Morgans and Mandy Brink made key shots, as both tallied eight points.

The Golden Eagles now begin preparing for a 1st-Round SUNYAC Tournament matchup with Oswego at home on Tuesday, February 20th.
