Brockport, NY – On Sunday, February 25
th the SUNY Brockport women's lacrosse team will begin the 2024 season at home. The Golden Eagles will host the University of Rochester Yellowjackets for a 12pm start.
Ready for Another Season: Head Coach
Bryana Glasser returns for her second season with the program, after serving as the interim head coach last spring before earning her promotion. Glasser helped Brockport to its 12th consecutive SUNYAC conference tournament appearance last season, earning the No. 4 seed and hosting rights for the tournament quarterfinals where the Golden Eagles topped New Paltz. She helped guide the Golden Eagles to an 8-8 overall record in 2023 and a 6-3 ledger in the highly competitive SUNYAC Conference.
Back for More: Brockport is fortunate to have two All-SUNYAC players returning for another season on the turf.
Cassidy Burnash is back for the Green and Gold after earning 1
st-Team All-SUNYAC and 2
nd-Team All-Region. Finishing the 2023 season with 79 total points (47 goals, 32 assists), Burnash was third in the SUNYAC in points and third in assists.
Alayna Foos is back for her junior season, after being named 2
nd-Team All-SUNYAC as a sophomore. She was second on the team in 2023, registering 39 goals and a total of 50 points.
Other Key Returners: The Golden Eagles welcome back six other players who are set to have a strong impact on the field this upcoming season. This includes
Julia Quinlan (27pts) and
Paige Thowe (19pts) who were the fourth and fifth leading point scorers last year for the team.
Journey Naab is poised for a strong sophomore season, after being fourth on the squad as a freshman in draw controls (22) last year.
Devin Tietjen will bring a veteran presence to the defense, as she started all 16 games for Brockport last year.
Amanda Evans and
Jillian Economou look to step up this year, as they begin their sophomore campaigns.
Fresh Faces: With just eight returners from last year's squad, Brockport is welcoming 13 new players to the team this season. This includes a strong freshman class of 11 newcomers which includes:
Kate Singer,
Christina Ross,
Hailey Lewkovich,
Kaeli McCarthy,
Tristan Davis,
Cate Peacock,
Olivia Magin,
Maeve Kelleher,
Rylee Haentges,
Jazmin Medina, and
Arianna Reed.
Sarah Kilburn and
Brienne Westfall also joined the roster for this spring, as both are also members of the Brockport swim and dive program.
Looking at U of R: The Yellowjackets enter this weekend's game at 1-0 on the season, opening the new campaign with a, 13-7, win over Oneonta on the road. They scored nine goals in the first half on the way to victory. Alyssa Gorny went for seven points on six goals and an assist in the contest. Goalie Ava Saffren made nine saves, going the full 60 minutes in net for the U of R. Last season Brockport fell to Rochester on the road, 17-12, and will look for revenge in the 2024 season opener at home.
