Brockport, NY - The Brockport women's lacrosse team was victorious in the season opener against Rochester in overtime, 12-11, on Sunday, February 25
th.
Cassidy Burnash would be the first of three Golden Eagles to record a hat trick, burying an unassisted goal in the 2
nd quarter to give Brockport a 4-2 lead with 12:16 remaining.
The matchup proved to be a back-and-forth affair, with Rochester responding with two goals in just over a minute to tie the game at 4-4.
Both teams would respond with another goal to tie the game at 5-5 entering the half, with
Tristan Davis burying a
Julia Quinlan feed for Brockport's 5
th goal.
The Yellowjackets would control the majority of the 3
rd quarter, with goals from Lorelei King and Grace Crochiere giving Rochester a two-goal edge.
The Golden Eagles would come to life in the final two minutes of the third, thanks to goals from
Tristan Davis (2) and
Julia Quinlan to tie the contest at 7-7 entering the fourth.
Rochester applied pressure early in the 4
th quarter, with Alyssa Gordy burying two goals in 15 seconds (3 total) to put the Yellowjackets up 9-7 with 13:01 remaining.
Brockport continued to fight back, snagging the next two goals thanks to scores from
Hailey Lewkovich and
Alayna Foos (both assisted by Burnash) to once again bring the game to a stalemate.
Neither team would give an inch in the 4
th, with
Paige Thowe and Rochester's Anna Rogers trading goals to make the score 10-10 with less than 4 minutes remaining.
Following a go-ahead goal from Rochester's Grace Crochiere,
Alayna Foos would come through in a huge way in crunch time.
Already with a goal in the contest, Foos would complete her hat-trick in grand fashion, tying the game at 11 each with 26 seconds left to force overtime before cashing in on a
Cassidy Burnash assist to score the game winning golden goal in overtime.
Cassidy Burnash put together an excellent outing, scoring 3 goals and adding 3 assists for 6 points on the day.
In her first game as a Golden Eagle,
Tristan Davis had herself a day with a hat trick effort.
Alayna Foos thrived throughout, racking up 5 points on the day in another hat trick performance for the Green and Gold.
Hailey Lewkovich notched her first goal as a member of the Green and Gold, adding a assist for two points on the day.
Arianna Reed had a strong debut between the pipes, saving 15 Rochester shots and earning the win.
