Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's lacrosse team fell to No. 19 Ithaca College at home on Saturday, 16-12. Brockport moves to 1-1 on the season, following the loss.
Cassidy Burnash filled up the box score with an impressive outing to total seven points. She racked up three goals, four assists, four draw controls, and three ground balls.
Making her first appearance of the season,
Sarah Kilburn was fantastic as well for the Green and Gold. Going 3-for-3 on free position shots, she totaled four goals and one assist for five points.
Tristan Davis and
Alayna Foos both found the back of the net twice, while
Paige Thowe had one goal in the contest. Thowe made a strong impact with seven draw controls and Foos led the team with three caused turnovers.
The visiting Bombers got off to a strong start, thanks to a pair of early goals from Caroline Wise. Wise finished with seven points from five goals and two assists in the game. Ithaca held a 5-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.
At one point in the first half, Ithaca scored seven unanswered goals to take a commanding lead. Kilburn scored twice just before halftime, but Brockport still trailed 10-4 going into the break.
In need of creating some momentum to mount a comeback, the Golden Eagles netted the first two scores of the third quarter. However, the Bombers were able to respond to keep a six-goal lead going into the fourth.
Brockport played its best quarter of the day in the fourth, attempting to get back within striking distance.
Cassidy Burnash scored three times and had one assist in the final period to lead the comeback effort.
Although the Golden Eagles won the fourth quarter, 5-3, it was not enough to catch the nationally ranked Bombers on the scoreboard. Ithaca was able to hold on for the 16-12 win on the road.
Arianna Reed totaled 10 saves in net for Brockport in the loss.
Brockport will hit the road next week for a 4pm matchup with RIT on Wednesday, March 6
th.
