Oneonta, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team finished the weekend with a second win, defeating Oneonta on the road, 94-81. Brockport improves to 15-6 overall and 11-4 in the conference.
Zachary Rice went off for a career-high 25 points on a great night shooting. He went 9-for-14 from the floor, 4-for-6 from 3-point range, and 3-for-4 at the foul line.
Caquan Wester posted his sixth double-double of the season, finishing with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Tony Arnold contributed with 18 points, five boards, two assists, and two steals.
Alex Tavarez tallied 17 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
Danny Ashley rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 points.
The Red Dragons got going with a string of jumpers in the first half, taking an early 8-point lead. With the clock at 8:16, Oneonta's lead had stretched to double digits (28-17) before Brockport answered.
It was Rice that provided the spark for the Golden Eagles to close out the first half strong. He scored 15 points before halftime as the team went on to take a lead before the break. Brockport held onto a slim, 41-39, edge going into the locker room.
Oneonta regained an advantage on the scoreboard in the early goings of the second half. However, once Brockport took control the team would be in charge the rest of the way. The Green and Gold scored 53 points in the half, holding onto a lead for the final 16:08 of the contest.
The Golden Eagles are back home at The Vlog next weekend for more conference play. They host Cortland for a 7:30pm tip-off on Friday, February 9
th.
