Oneonta, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's basketball team picked up a big overtime win on the road against Oneonta, 79-75. The victory pushes the team to 11-11 overall and 7-8 in SUNYAC play.
Zoe Zutes led all scorers in the game with 23 points. She went 6-for-12 from the field, 3-for-4 from long range, and 8-for-10 at the foul line.
Stephanie Jean-Baptiste totaled 18 points and nine boards.
Zairea Hannah posted another double-double, finishing with 12 points and 17 boards.
Oneonta took an early lead on its home floor, but
Zoe Zutes had an answer for the Golden Eagles. Zutes hit from long range to make it a 1-point game halfway through the first quarter. She had six points in the opening period and 10 points in the half, but Brockport trailed 15-12 going into the second.
At 7:38 in the second quarter,
Mandy Brink hit a shot from 3-point territory to give Brockport is first lead of the game, 19-18. The Red Dragons turned it up a notch from that point, as they created a 10-point halftime lead. Emma Schwarzbeck hit a buzzer beater to give Oneonta a 33-23 lead.
Stephanie Jean-Baptiste got going early in the second half, helping Brockport close the gap with an 11-2 run that cut the deficit to just two points. Molly Stephens halted the Golden Eagles momentum with a pair of jumpers to keep Oneonta ahead. The Red Dragons led 48-42 heading into the fourth.
Trailing, 57-49, the Green and Gold would put together another run to close the gap on the scoreboard.
Zairea Hannah and
Zoe Zutes both came up with crucial buckets to make it a 59-58 game. However, it was
Shannon Blankenship that gave the squad a 1-point lead with 1:52 left in regulation.
Zutes made a pair of foul shots in the final stretch to give the Golden Eagles a 3-point lead. Oneonta's Emma Schwarzbeck then came up clutch with a buzzer-beater from long range to tie the game at 64-64, sending this conference matchup to overtime.
Stephanie Jean-Baptiste went on to score 11 of her 18 points in the 5-minute overtime period. Her scoring explosion kept the game tied at 75-75 with 1:33 left on the clock.
Anna Lee made a pair of free throws to put the Golden Eagles ahead late, while
Hali Lucia added two more makes at the line to put the game away.
Brockport is back at home next weekend for a matchup with Cortland at 5:30pm on Friday, February 9
th.
