Westminster, MD – For the second game in a row, the Golden Eagle women's lacrosse team pulled out a win behind a strong fourth quarter surge. They defeated McDaniel College on the road Saturday, 14-13, to improve to 3-3 on the season.
Through three competitive quarters, Brockport entered the fourth down by two goals. The squad went on to outscore McDaniel, 4-1, in the final frame.
Alayna Foos came up clutch with the game-tying and game-winning scores in the final minutes of regulation.
Foos finished with a season-high five goals on the day, marking her third career 5-goal performance.
Cassidy Burnash added five points in total, scoring four goals and dishing out an assist.
Julia Quinlan and
Sarah Kilburn both chipped in with a pair of goals each.
Although McDaniel scored the first goal of the day, the Golden Eagles got off to a strong start after a quick answer. They took a 4-2 lead into the second period. Foos and Quinlan both scored twice in the first.
The second and third quarters belonged to the hosting Green Terror, both resulting in a 5-3 period for the home team. McDaniel's work in the middle of the contest created a 12-10 lead going into the fourth.
Then Brockport turned it up a notch to comeback and retake the momentum. Kilburn got the squad started with the first score of the fourth. McDaniel answered quickly with a score, but the Golden Eagles rattled off three straight to secure the 14-13 win.
Non-conference play is officially completed for the Green and Gold, as the team prepares to open up SUNYAC competition next week. Brockport will head to Plattsburgh on Saturday, March 23
rd for an 11am start to kickoff conference action.
