Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport softball team is on the road this weekend for a pair of conference matchups. It starts with a 3pm doubleheader at Potsdam on Friday before Saturday's 12pm start at Plattsburgh.
Home Opener Split: Earlier in the week the Golden Eagles hosted Fredonia for their first home games of the season. They split the doubleheader against the Blue Devils, taking game one before falling in game two. Brockport's 1-0 win ahead of the 14-5 loss pushed the team's record to 8-18 overall and 2-6 in the SUNYAC.
DeJesus in the Clutch: Brockport and Fredonia were tied, 0-0, heading into the eighth inning. With a runner in scoring position,
Emma DeJesus would win it for the Green and Gold. A line drive single to right field scored the game-winning run to give Brockport the 1-0 win at home. She finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI from the walk-off hit.
Phillips' Shutout Effort: Kendall Phillips threw a gem of a game in the win over Fredonia. Starting at pitcher, she picked up the win after pitching the full 8.0 innings. Phillips threw a complete game shutout, allowing no runs on four hits with six strikeouts. She now owns a 5-5 record on the season.
Hitting Leaders: Olivia Simone leads the lineup with 26 hits, 17 runs, and 13 doubles. Batting .333 she also has a .526 slugging percentage to lead the team.
Paige Wentland is first on the team with her 16 RBIs this season and has the most triples as well with three.
Kellie Gentile is hitting a team-best .362 so far this year to go with a team-best .456 on base percentage.
SUNYAC Stats: Brockport has players that rank highly around the conference in different statistical categories. Simone's 13 doubles is second in the conference this season. This has helped create her .526 slugging which ranks seventh in the SUNYAC. Gentile's on base percentage of .462 is fifth best in the conference. With 106 strikeouts on the year, Phillips is currently second amongst all pitchers in the SUNYAC.
Home Sweet Home: Following this weekend road trip, the Golden Eagles will finish out the regular season with three consecutive home doubleheaders. They host Geneseo (April 30
th), Oneonta (May 3
rd), and New Paltz (May 4
th).
