Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport softball team begins this week on the road Tuesday for a doubleheader against RIT. The first game of the set is scheduled for a 3pm start out in Rochester.
SUNYAC Opener: The Golden Eagles lost both games to Buffalo State in a doubleheader on Sunday (2-1, 9-1). Those were the first conference games of the year for Brockport, moving the team to 5-13 overall and 0-2 in the SUNYAC.
Later this Week: Brockport will resume conference play this weekend with another pair of road matchups. The squad will travel to face Cortland on Friday, April 12
th for a 3pm start for game one. On Saturday, Brockport finishes up the weekend at Oswego for a 12pm start to the doubleheader.
Recent Award Winner: Freshman pitcher
Kendall Phillips was recently selected as the SUNYAC Softball Pitcher of the week on April 1
st. With 45.0 innings this season, she owns a 3-3 record and is currently leading the SUNYAC with 78 strikeouts.
Big Hitters: Kellie Gentile is currently leading the Golden Eagles with her .350 batting average (20
th in the SUNYAC) and .447 on base percentage (12
th in the SUNYAC). She has 14 hits, which is behind only
Emma DeJesus (16) and
Olivia Simone (15) on the team. DeJesus is hitting .314 and is tied for first on the team with nine RBIs (
Paige Wentland - 9 RBIs). Simone currently ranks second in the conference with nine doubles so far this season. Wentland has double-digit hits (13) along with
Aubrey Ennis (12), who adds eight RBIs to her line.
The Pitching Staff: Hadley Alguire is another freshman pitcher making an impact with her record of 2-3. She leads Brockport with seven starts, including one complete game in the circle and has pitched a total of 26.2 innings.
Fiona Gibiser is the third pitcher on the staff with double-digit outings. She has four starts in her 12 appearances, pitching 21.1 innings.
Looking Ahead: The Golden Eagles are on the road Thursday, April 18
th against Hilbert College. Then they return home on Saturday, April 20
th for Dumaw Day against Geneseo (12pm), as Brockport celebrates recently retired Head Coach John Dumaw.
