Brockport, NY – On Wednesday, May 1
st the SUNY Brockport women's lacrosse team will be on the road for the SUNYAC Semifinals. The No. 4 seeded Golden Eagles will take on the SUNYAC's No. 1 seeded Cortland Red Dragons at 3pm.
1st Round OT Thriller: The Golden Eagle women's lacrosse team defeated Oswego, 11-10, in overtime during Saturday's opening round postseason game. Brockport now advances through to the SUNYAC Semifinals. After trailing at halftime, four goals for the Green and Gold in the fourth quarter pushed the game to overtime.
Sarah Kilburn played the hero with the game-winning goal in OT, as the Golden Eagles survived at home in the first round of the conference tournament.
Athletes of the Week: Brockport women's lacrosse swept the final weekly awards given out this season.
Cassidy Burnash and
Arianna Reed were selected as the SUNYAC Women's Lacrosse Offensive & Defensive Athletes of the Week. In two games Burnash totaled 12 points on six goals and six assists. This included a 9-point outing against Buffalo State (5G, 4A) to clinch the No. 4 seed for the postseason. Reed made 19 saves in a pair of wins as the goalie for Brockport. She made nine saves against Buffalo State and then had 10 more in the OT win over Oswego in the postseason contest.
Glasser Back in the Semis: Head Coach
Bryana Glasser has the program back in the SUNYAC Semifinals for the second time in her two seasons leading the way. Last year she pushed the Golden Eagles through New Paltz in the first round, advancing to the 2023 semifinals. Brockport has now made nine straight trips to the semifinal round of the SUNYAC Tournament, going back to the 2015 season.
Double Trouble: Cassidy Burnash and
Alayna Foos have been fantastic all season long for Brockport on the field. Burnash leads the team with 79 points, which ranks third in the conference. She has racked up 40 goals and 39 assists as one of the top offensive threats in the SUNYAC. Foos has heavily contributed on both ends of the field this season. She not only leads Brockport with 49 goals, but also leads the defensive effort with 24 caused turnovers. Foos has a total of 63 points with the addition of 14 assists.
Making an Impact: Tristan Davis is third on the team with totals of 39 points and 37 goals in her freshman season. She has also snagged 44 draw controls on the year.
Sarah Kilburn leads the way for Brockport with 68 draw controls to go with her 26 goals.
Paige Thowe has chipped in all over with 30 groundballs, 31 draw controls, 13 caused turnovers, and 12 goals.
Matching Up with Cortland: This will be the second year in a row that Brockport will head to No. 1 Cortland for the SUNYAC Semifinals. Last season the Red Dragons won the semifinal game, 19-8, on their home field. Heading into Wednesday's game, Cortland is 12-4 overall and went undefeated at 9-0 in the conference to secure the No. 1 seed. The team is on a 10-game win streak heading into the postseason. #22 Rachel Janis (75pts) and #1 Toni Cashman (72pts) lead the Red Dragons offensively. Janis has 12 goals and 63 assists, while Cashman has 61 goals and 11 assists. Brockport fell to Cortland, 16-4, earlier this season in a regular season matchup on the road.
Win or Go Home: This deep into the postseason it is single elimination for all teams. Brockport and Cortland will faceoff Wednesday for a chance to advance to the 2024 SUNYAC Finals. The winner will go on to play in the championship game on Saturday, May 4
th.
