Brockport Women's Soccer Starts Strong with 5-0 Win

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's soccer team shutout the Allegheny Gators, 5-0, at home to open the 2024 season 1-0.

Before the start of today's women's soccer home opener Brockport welcomed Empire 8 Conference Executive Director Chuck Mitrano, Brockport President Dr. Heidi Macpherson, Vice President for Enrollment Management Dr. Sara Kelly, Athletic Director Dr. Erick Hart, Women's Soccer Head Coach Mike Idland, the women's soccer captains and several members the Golden Eagles Student Athlete Advisory Committee for a ceremony to commemorate the Golden Eagles first game as a member of the E8.

Sierra Edwards made some noise in her Brockport debut, registering five points for with an assist and two goals. Edwards' first goal came unassisted at 47:15 and her second came just a minute later at 48:41, assisted by teammate Maryalice Skutnik. Skutnik tallied her first points of the season, finishing with three points on one goal to go with the assist. Her goal at 53:22 was assisted by Megan Gerber.

Jaylah Cossin and freshman Marisa Closson started their season with two points each. Cossin scored the first goal of the day with the assist from Edwards, and Closson scored the last goal with some help from McKenna Slate.

Karissa Champion, Madeline McCrosson, and Emily McCane all saw time in the net today for the Golden Eagles. Champion got the start, playing the whole first half with four saves between the pipes. McCrosson started the second half, controlling the net for 29 minutes before McCane finished off the final 16 minutes of action.

Freshmen Morgan Tubbs, Dinah Gifford and Ella Camalleri got their foot on the ball with one shot on goal each in game one of their collegiate careers.

The women's team will play again at home Saturday, August 31st at 2 pm against the Skidmore Thoroughbreds.
