Field Hockey Wins Double Overtime Thriller Over Juniata

Meadville, PA: The Brockport field hockey team started the season on a high note, downing Juniata College on the road, 2-1, in double overtime on Saturday, August 31st. The Golden Eagles move to 1-0 to begin the 2024 season.

Both defenses controlled the opening frame, with Tiffany Andres finding a pair of scoring chances in the first period, both being stopped by Juniata goalie Amanda Puza.
 
In her first game as a Golden Eagle, Samantha Choate opened the scoring 3:50 into the second period, giving Brockport a 1-0 edge.
 
Juniata would threaten with less than two minutes left in the half, creating three scoring chances. All three attempts were denied by Ella Buchanan.
 
Up 1-0 entering the third period, Paige Thowe and Emmalee Moore both launched shots on goal in the first four minutes. However, both shooters were stopped by Amanda Puza.
 
With just 23 seconds left in the third Jane Corbin would find Caitlin Steffie for the Juniata equalizer, tying the contest at 1-1 entering the fourth.
 
Both teams would exchange scoring chances in the final frame, with Ella Buchanan making three big stops in the fourth period to force overtime.
 
The Green and Gold would dominate in the 1st overtime period, outshooting Juniata, 11-0, with four shots on goal. This time it was Amanda Puza that stepped up in net for Juniata to help force a second overtime period.
 
1:52 into the second overtime period, Kelsey Zehr would be the hero. She buried a Quinn Guy feed to secure a double overtime victory for the Green and Gold in the season opener.
 
Ella Buchanan (1-0) picked up the win in an excellent effort, making 13 stops and allowing just one goal across 71:52 of action.
 
Samantha Choate (1G) and Allison Greene led the Golden Eagles in both shots (7) and shots on goal (3), with Paige Thowe adding three shots on goal.
 
Terralyn McLaughlin made the lone defensive save for the Golden Eagles.
 
Up Next: Brockport will take on Allegheny from Meadville, PA on Sunday, September 1st at 1 p.m.
