Center Valley, PA – The SUNY Brockport volleyball team went 1-1 to split on Saturday to close out opening weekend at the DeSales University Quad. The Golden Eagles lost to Stevenson, 3-1, to start the day and then bounced back with a 3-0 sweep over Rutgers-Camden.
Brockport 1, Stevenson 3 – Match 1
In the first set of the match, the Green and Gold earned the first point, 25-21. However, the Stevenson Mustangs came back strong by winning the next three sets to take the 3-1 win.
With 11 kills and a pair of block assists,
Alenna Williamson led Brockport with 12 points in the loss.
Alexis Sison was the only other Golden Eagle to hit double-digit kills, finishing with 10.
Kaitlyn Jewett was effective in her setter spot with a team-high 21 assists to go with 13 digs defensively.
Lauryn Forand chipped in with 14 assists and seven digs.
Elsie Logan tallied 16 digs to lead the squad on the defensive side of the action.
Gianna Felipe hustled for 11 digs, giving Brockport three players in double-digits for the match.
Brockport took its first loss of the season, with the matchup against Rutgers-Camden coming later in the same day. The team entered the final contest of opening weekend at 1-1 overall.
Brockport 3, Rutgers-Camden 0 – Match 2
The Golden Eagles turned it around in the afternoon battle with Rutgers-Camden with a 3-0 sweep. They won the three straight sets by scores of 25-14, 25-19, and 25-18.
Brockport had four players contribute eight or more points in the match.
Alenna Williamson led the way once again, this time with 10.5 points thanks to a team-high 10 kills.
Alexis Sison did it all with six kills, four aces, and added 16 digs.
Lauren Emke had eight kills offensively and three block assists on defense to total 9.5 points.
Ellie Cusmano totaled 8.5 points with eight kills and one block assist.
Kaitlyn Jewett posted a match-best 20 assists, while also contributing six digs and one ace.
Lauryn Forand added nine assists, while
Elsie Logan notched eight digs.
The Golden Eagles begin the 2024 campaign 2-1 after its work at the DeSales Quad. They are back in action next weekend at the RIT Invitational on September 6
th and 7
th.
