Rochester, NY – In their first matchup of the RIT Invitational, the Golden Eagles pulled out a hard-fought, 3-2, victory over Hamilton College. Brockport improved to 3-1 overall, while Hamilton begins the year 0-1.
Alexis Sison hit career-best numbers in multiple categories in the 5-set match. The junior totaled career-highs of 27.5 points, 26 kills, and registered 18 digs. Brockport went her way all match, finishing with another career-high of 60 total attempts (.267 pct).
The Hamilton College Continentals started their season with a win in the first set over the Golden Eagles, 25-22. Brockport responded, 25-20, in the second set to tie the match up at 1-1. Set number three went to the Continentals, 25-18, giving them a 2-1 lead.
When they needed it most, the Golden Eagles dug deep in the fourth set to pull out a tight, 25-23, win to send the match to a fifth set. Just as it had been all match, the final set was close throughout. Trailing 12-9, Brockport went on a big run to come from behind.
Sison had four kills down the stretch for Brockport, who scored six out of seven points to erase the deficit.
Gianna Felipe was effective on the serve in the critical final moments, serving for the final four points of the win.
Sison's big night was complimented by
Alenna Williamson's 11 kills and two block assists (12.0 points).
Maddy Howell finished with eight kills and three block assists (9.5 points), while
Lauren Emke had seven kills.
Kaitlyn Jewett and freshman
Lauryn Forand both had busy nights for the Green and Gold. Jewett notched season-highs of 30 assists and 14 digs. Forand set new career-highs with 23 assists and nine digs.

Elsie Logan led the Brockport defensive effort with 21 digs, setting a new season-best in the fourth match of the year.
Gianna Felipe got after it with 14 digs, in a match with four Brockport players recording 14 or more digs.
The Golden Eagles will be back in Rochester for day two of the RIT Invitational on Saturday. They will take on Springfield at 11am and Buffalo State at 4pm to close out the weekend.
