Tennis Prepares for a Pair of Home Matches This Weekend

Brockport, NY - The Brockport women's tennis team will host Oswego State in home opener action on Friday, September 13th at 1 p.m. before taking on Hartwick College on Saturday, September 14th at 1 p.m.

Last Time Out: The Golden Eagles fell on the road against Russell Sage, 8-1, to open Empire 8 play. They are now 0-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play early in the season.

Cara Vasile and Lena Paolicelli made their debut in 1st doubles, falling to Tirzah Spivey and Emma Nuzzi of Russell Sage, 8-4.

Olivia Chiu and Sophie Langdon dropped their 2nd doubles matchup against Manan Aguirre and Olivia Monaro, 8-4.

Cara Vasile made her first appearance in 1st singles, coming up short in two sets against Manan Aguirre (6-1, 6-0).

Securing the Golden Eagles' lone point on the day, Erin McMichael earned a win in 6th singles in two sets (6-3, 7-5).

Familiar Foe: Taking on Oswego State this weekend, the Golden Eagles and the Lakers have been common opponents from Brockport's time in the SUNYAC. Since the 2007-08 season, the Golden Eagles have won 16 of 22 meetings, including an 11-match win streak from 2010-17. The head-to-head series has been competitive as of late, with both teams splitting the last four meetings.

First Win: Much like Madison Ballone did against Fredonia, freshman Erin McMichael earned herself a milestone win against Russell Sage. McMichael broke the shutout against the Gators, securing her first collegiate singles win as a Golden Eagle.

Scouting Oswego: The Lakers have jumped out to a strong 5-0 start, looking to improve from last year's 6-6 finish. Oswego will take on Utica at home before heading to Brockport to take on the Golden Eagles.

Scouting Hartwick: The Hawks opened the season 2-0, coming off a successful 9-6 record in the 2023-24 season. The Hawks scored wins over Cortland (7-0) and Geneseo (6-3) to begin the season.

Up Next: The Golden Eagles will head to Rochester, NY for Empire 8 play against St. John Fisher on Friday, September 20th at 4 p.m.
