Volleyball Goes 1-1 on Saturday at RIT Invitational

Rochester, NY – On Saturday the Golden Eagles went 1-1 to finish off the weekend at the RIT Invitational. After falling to Springfield, 3-0, they bounced back for a 3-2 win over Buffalo State. Brockport improved to 4-2 overall on the season.
 
Brockport 0, Springfield 3 – Final
 
The Springfield Pride put together a strong showing in set one for the 25-10 win. They would carry that momentum into the second and third sets, winning both 25-17 for the sweep. Springfield benefitted from 11 aces on the serve and 18 total block assists as a team.
 
Alenna Williamson had six kills to go with one solo block and one block assist. Lauryn Forand (8) and Kaitlyn Jewett (7) combined for 15 assists. Elsie Logan led the team with 14 digs as the libero.
 
Brockport 3, Buffalo State 2 – Final
 
Following the loss to Springfield, Brockport planned to bounce back in the afternoon against the Buffalo State Bengals. The Bengals took the first set, 25-20, before Brockport responded.
 
The Golden Eagles won the second set, 25-18, and the third set, 25-23, to go up 2-1. Buffalo State had an answer in the fourth, taking the win 25-20 to force a fifth. Brockport got the job done in five, 15-8, to secure a 3-2 victory.
 
Alexis Sison, Alenna Williamson, and Anna Cascapera all had 32 or more total attempts offensively. Sison finished with 19 kills, Williamson had 16 kills with  a .469 pct, and Cascapera had 11 kills.
 
Four players had double digit digs thanks to good positioning and hustle. Elsie Logan led the way with 21 digs, Sison had 12 of her own, Cascapera registered 10, and Kaitlyn Jewett also contributed 10 digs. Jewett also set a new season-high with 45 assists.
 
Cascapera also snuck in six service aces during her rotation, while Ellie Cusmano had three aces. Lauren Emke had a team-high of four block assists to go with her eight kills in the middle.
 
The Golden Eagles are in Rochester once again next weekend for another invitational style format. They head to the U of R Invitational, scheduled to face Amherst College first on Friday, September 13th at 7pm.
