Oneonta, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team won its third game in a row on Friday night. Brockport improved to 4-6 overall and 2-0 in the Empire 8 after defeating Hartwick on the road, 90-71.
Mekhi Beckett led the Golden Eagles in scoring for the third straight game since the year changed to 2025. Beckett led all players in the contest with 19 points, shooting 5-for-8 from beyond the 3-point arc. He also contributed with five boards and six steals.
The early stages of the game saw the two teams battle to a 10-10 tie. The Golden Eagles got hot and went on a 19-6 run to create a 29-16 lead with just over six minutes before halftime. The Hawks went on a strong spurt to close the first half, making it just a 7-point deficit at the break.
Brockport led 41-34 at halftime and started the second half hot from deep to open up the contest. Several makes from long range by
Mekhi Beckett and
Zachary Rice put the squad up by 14 points early in the second.
By the 8-minute mark on the clock, the Golden Eagles were up 74-53 looking to put the game away. They led by as many as 25 points late in the contest, cruising to the finish line for a third straight win.
Beckett led a group of four Brockport scorers that reached double digits on the night with his 19. He is averaging 20.3 points per game during this win streak.
Zachary Rice matched Beckett from deep, hitting 5-of-7 from 3-point territory on his way to 16 points.
Alex Tavarez posted 13 points to go with four boards and three assists.
Tony Arnold stuffed the stat sheet as usual with 10 points, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
The Golden Eagles shot well from all over the court in this road E8 victory. They shot 48.5% from the floor, 53.8% from deep, and 75% at the foul line.
Brockport is back in action on Saturday for another road game. This time the group will take on Russell Sage for a 4pm tip-off.
