Women's Basketball Cruises By Elmira, Matches Best Start in Program History

Brockport, NY- The Brockport women's basketball team defeated Elmira 74-53 on Friday, January 17th at Speidel Gymnasium in Elmira, NY.
 
Stephanie Jean-Baptiste led the team with 14 points and contributed significantly in the playmaking department with six assists.
 
Peyton Maneri also made an impact, scoring 11 points and showcasing her shooting efficiency with five field goals.
 
Mandy Brink displayed her defensive presence, securing two steals while adding 10 points.
 
Shannon Blankenship demonstrated her defensive skills with a team-high three steals. Harmony Philo matched this defensive effort with three steals of her own, adding depth to Brockport's excellent defense
 
Brockport started the first quarter with a strong defensive effort, highlighted by Kaileigh Hunt securing multiple defensive rebounds. Shannon Blankenship and Cam Tooley contributed with key layups, while Stephanie Jean-Baptiste added a fast-break layup at 4:20, assisted by Tooley. Mandy Brink made a crucial impact with two successful 3-pointers, the last at 1:15, giving Brockport a narrow lead at the end of the quarter with a score of 14-12.
 
In the second quarter, Brockport and the Soaring Eagles both showcased strong defensive plays, with Brockport's Harmony Philo contributing a key block early on. Kaileigh Hunt opened the scoring for Brockport with a layup assisted by Cam Tooley, who later added a pair of free throws to tie the game at 29 with 0:30 remaining. Peyton Maneri and Stephanie Jean-Baptiste led a scoring streak, with Jean-Baptiste capitalizing on fast breaks to maintain Brockport's competitive edge throughout the quarter. Despite the Soaring Eagles' late comeback, the quarter concluded with both teams tied at 29.
 
In the third quarter, Brockport outscored the Soaring Eagles 22-12, highlighted by a strong start with Peyton Maneri scoring a layup at 9:00. Shannon Blankenship contributed with a key steal, and Stephanie Jean-Baptiste added a series of crucial points, including a layup at 5:30, widening the gap in the score. The Golden Eagle defense was effective, with Kaileigh Hunt recording a defensive rebound and a steal, while Cam Tooley capped the quarter with a fast-break layup, extending the lead to 51-41 by the end of the quarter.
 
Brockport demonstrated a strong offensive performance in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Soaring Eagles 23-12. Cam Tooley initiated the scoring with a 3-pointer at 9:02, followed by a fast-break layup from Stephanie Jean-Baptiste at 8:33.
 
Anna Lee expanded the lead with a jumper at 7:45, assisted by Jackie Kozakiewicz. Kaileigh Hunt contributed with a layup at 6:40, and Cam Tooley added another 3-pointer at 1:12. Jackie Kozakiewicz closed the scoring for the Green and Gold with a 3-pointer, securing a 74-53 victory.
 
This win marked the Golden Eagles' sixth straight victory, matching their best start in program history, set during the 2007-08 season with a 12-2 record.
