Elmira, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team picked up a win on the road Friday night against Elmira, 94-87. Brockport improves to 6-7 overall and 4-1 in Empire 8 play.
In just 17 minutes of playing time,
Jacob Oka led the Golden Eagles with 18 points (ties career-high) on 7-for-10 shooting. Oka also went 4-for-5 at the foul line and grabbed five offensive rebounds.
Nathaniel Gordon continued his impressive stretch of games, totaling 17 points on the road.
Mekhi Beckett (13pts),
Alex Tavarez (12pts), and
Zachary Rice (10) rounded out the Brockport double-digit scorers.
While the Golden Eagles got off to a good start with a 7-2 lead, Elmira went on to control most of the first half. The Soaring Eagles would respond with a 12-2 run to take a 14-9 lead of their own. Elmira led by as many as 13 points in the half, and held a 45-38 advantage at halftime.
The second half saw Brockport go on a 10-0 run right out of the break. With 17:18 showing on the clock, the score was tied up at 48-48.
Jacob Oka provided a lift by generating second chance points on the offensive glass. Oka's hustle along with some makes from deep by the Brockport shooters gave the squad a 76-66 lead.
After trailing at halftime, Brockport scored 56 points in the second half to pull out the victory on the road. Elmira made several efforts to close the gap late in the second half, but the Golden Eagles held off any comeback attempts. They would earn the 7-point win in E8 play Friday night.
Back on the road for another conference clash on Saturday, Brockport will take on the Keuka College Wolves for a 4pm start.
