Women's Hoops Downs Houghton, 73-67, Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Brockport, NY- The Brockport women's basketball team defeated Houghton, 73-67, in Empire 8 play on Friday, January 24th, at the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gym in Brockport, NY. The Golden Eagles moved to 14-2 overall and 7-0 in E8 play. Brockport has won its eighth straight contest  
 
Stephanie Jean-Baptiste led the Golden Eagles with an impressive performance, scoring 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting and adding three steals.
 
Harmony Philo also had a strong performance, contributing 19 points, including making all five of her 3-point attempts.
 
Cam Tooley was effective on both ends of the court, scoring 13 points, securing five rebounds, and dishing out five assists, along with two steals.
 
 Kaileigh Hunt provided a reliable presence in the paint, leading the team with nine rebounds and scoring eight points.
 
In the first quarter, Brockport's Stephanie Jean-Baptiste got the offense going, scoring six points, including a layup and free throw in the final minutes to close the gap to 17-16. Houghton would maintain a slight edge, aided by their ability to connect on five 3-pointers, including a crucial one by Crysta Lacrosse that extended their lead to 19-16 at the end of the quarter.
 
Brockport matched Houghton with a 19-19 second quarter. Harmony Philo also connected with a fast-break 3-pointer, bringing the score to 35-35 with 1:23 remaining. The Golden Eagles would enter halftime down by three.
 
In the third quarter, Brockport outscored Houghton 20-12, with Harmony Philo and Cam Tooley each hitting crucial 3-pointers, with Philo's shot giving the Golden Eagles a 55-50 lead. Kaileigh Hunt was consistent from the line, making both free throws to tie the game at 50-50, while also contributing with a block and defensive rebound. The team's defensive efforts were highlighted by Cam Tooley's two steals and a late steal that led to a Philo 3-pointer.
 
In the 4th quarter, Brockport maintained a steady lead over Houghton, ultimately outscoring them 18-17. Stephanie Jean-Baptiste was excellent, connecting on multiple key layups, including one in a crunch time to extend the lead to 70-65. Harmony Philo drilled a pivotal 3-pointer, assisted by Jean-Baptiste, to push the score to 64-55. Cam Tooley sealed the game with two successful free throws in the final moments, bringing the final score to 73-67.
