Brockport, NY – The women's soccer team dominated on home turf today with a 4-0 blank against the Houghton Highlanders, making this their sixth shutout of the season. The Golden Eagles have remained undefeated, sitting at 6-0-3 overall and 4-0 in the conference. As of September 30
th, Brockport was also ranked eighth in the region and looks to continue the streak.
Wasting no time in the first period,
Amelia Breton started off hot with a rocket to the back of the net with an assist from
Lena Turaj at just 8:56. Brockport kept the Houghton defenders on their toes until
Lyndsey Miller fought past to put the ball in with another assist from
Lena Turaj. Right before the end of the first half,
Chiara Torriani scored her first goal of the season to bring the Green and Gold up 3-0 with an assist from
Lucy Crounse.
Brockport showed out in the first half, keeping control of the ball and leading in shots with 12 compared to the Highlanders' one. The Green and Gold were also on top with corner kick opportunities, with three over zero.
Coming back from the halftime break, the Golden Eagles stayed strong, but Houghton also made their mark. Brockport had a total of seven shots, with the Highlanders following closely behind with five. Corner kick opportunities saw similar results with Brockport at four over Houghton with three. Just before the end of the competition,
Megan Gerber snuck the ball past the goalkeeper with a pass from
McKenna Slate with just five minutes left.
Amelia Breton remained on top with a dominant seven shots with six on goal.
McKenna Slate added in two shots with two on goal, and
Lyndsey Miller,
Megan Gerber, and
Kaitlyn Spring each added in two with one on goal.
Ella Camalleri and
Lena Turaj each contributed all 90 minutes of the matchup, holding a strong defensive line.
Emily McCane took first shift in between the pipes for the team and at the halftime break,
Madeline McCrosson was substituted in making a total of three saves on the day.
