Brockport, NY – The wrestling team showed up to compete today at the New York State Collegiate Championships, clinching a strong third place with 166.5 points out of 20 schools.
Mason Mangialino had an impressive show out at 149, taking first and scoring 20.5 points. Mangialino started the day with a win by fall (6:01), a tech fall win (15-0) and a major decision win (22-8). Mangialino took the 4-0 decision win in the semifinals, and fought for a 6-4 decision win in the 1
st place match.
At 184,
Avery Bustamante put up a fight for second place and 19.5 points for the Golden Eagles. Bustamante started strong with a 14-3 major decision win, a win by fall at 2:38, and a 20-5 tech fall win. Bustmante finished the day in the semifinal round with a 23-13 major decision victory.
Trevor Middendorf dominated in the 125 bout, scoring 19 team points. Middendorf had a tech fall win (21-6), win by fall (2:12) and a tech fall win (21-5). In the semifinal round, Middendorf had a close 13-12 decision win.
Tyler Rossini showed out with a second-place finish, earning 18.5 points. Rossini won by a 13-2 major decision, a 19-2 tech fall, a fall 5:55 into the match, and a 6-2 decision in the semifinal match of the 157lb division.
Dan O' Dea placed fifth in the 141 bout, contributing 17 points to the team after two strong wins by fall 6:05 into the match and at 0:58. O' Dea added a win by fall at 1:22, a 9-8 decision, and by medical forfeit in the 5
th place match.
In the 133lb division,
Kolton Kelley showed out with a second-place finish and earned 16 points. Kelley won by fall 1:26 into the match, won by a 2-1 decision, and won by a 13-2 major decision in the semifinal round.
Ryan Cieslinski clinched a third-place finish, good for 14.5 points. Cieslinksi won by a major decision (19-7), a decision (11-5), and finished out the day with a medical forfeit win in the 3
rd place match.
At 125,
Robert Armstrong took sixth and earned 12 points. Armstrong won by a 3-0 decision, two major decisions (10-12 & 13-0), a 17-2 tech fall, and a fall 4:39 into the match.
Simon Lingle had a day at 197, taking fourth place and finishing with 11.5 points. Lingle won by fall 6:35 into the match and an 8-3 decision. In the cons semi round, Lingle finished with a sudden victory win (SV-1 15-12)
Luke Herendeen followed in Lingle's footsteps with a fourth place finish, earning 11.5 points. Herendeen opened up the competition with a 5-1 decision win and a 5-3 decided win. In the cons semi round, Herendeen finished up the day with a win by fall 2:33 into the match.
Gavin McLaughlin completed the meet with a fifth-place finish, good for 11.5 points. McLaughlin won by a 19-3 tech fall, a 7-2 decision, and a 13-4 major decision. In the 5
th place match, McLaughlin brought home an 11-7 decision win at 174.
At 141,
Jaden Friel made a strong run, taking sixth place, scoring 11 team points. Friel finished with a win by fall (1:14) and two tech fall wins (17-1 & 19-3).
Finishing the day in sixth and contributing 10.5 points was
Max Morrison, following a series of wins at 165. Morrison won by two decisions (7-0 & 9-4), a tech fall (19-3), and a fall 5:00 into the matchup in the cons round 5.
