Daytona Beach, FL – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team faced a challenging afternoon on Tuesday, falling 81-62 to Washington and Lee University in the consolation round of the Mauro Panaggio Holiday Tournament. Despite a resilient second-half effort where the Golden Eagles outscored the Generals 34-32, an early deficit proved too large to overcome.
Foul Trouble Stymies First Half Momentum: The contest was defined early by whistle-heavy play that hindered Brockport's defensive rhythm. The Golden Eagles were whistled for nine fouls in the opening 20 minutes, a factor that the Generals exploited at the charity stripe.
Washington and Lee earned 16 free throw attempts in the first half alone, converting them into 14 points. In stark contrast, Brockport was only able to reach the line for two attempts during the same period. This discrepancy, combined with a hot shooting start from the Generals, allowed Washington and Lee to build a commanding 21-point lead (49-28) heading into the locker room.
Freshmen Spark the Bench: While the outcome was a setback, the Golden Eagles saw significant production from their younger core. Freshmen
Jack Clancy and
Kameron Langdon both provided a much-needed spark off the bench, recording their first double-digit scoring performances of the season.
- Jack Clancy: Notched 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting, including a pair of triples. Clancy was also a menace in the passing lanes, recording two steals.
- Kameron Langdon: Matched his fellow freshman with 10 points, fueled by three shots from beyond the arc. Langdon added a well-rounded stat line with two rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
Veteran forward
Jacob Oka anchored the defensive effort for the Green and Gold. Oka cleaned up the glass with a team-high six rebounds and tallied a team-high three steals while adding eight points to the scoreboard.
Up Next: The Golden Eagles (2-5) will take a short hiatus for the winter break before returning to action at The Vlog. Brockport is set to host Penn State Behrend at the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium on Tuesday, December 30th. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
