Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team (3-5) closed out the 2025 calendar year in spectacular fashion on Tuesday afternoon, securing a 61-60 comeback victory over Penn State-Behrend in their home opener. In a contest defined by defensive grit and a second-half offensive explosion, the Golden Eagles rallied from a double-digit halftime deficit to stun the Lions and ignite the home crowd at the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gym.
The Comeback
The Golden Eagles faced early adversity as Penn State-Behrend utilized sharp shooting to build a commanding 15-point lead midway through the first half. Trailing 36-26 at the intermission, Brockport struggled initially, shooting just 34.62% from the floor in the opening frame.
However, the Green and Gold emerged from the locker room with a renewed defensive intensity that fueled a massive 18-2 second-half run. The momentum reached a fever pitch with 11:58 remaining when
Jack Clancy buried a clutch corner three-pointer. The triple sent "The Vlog" into a frenzy and gave Brockport a 44-42 advantage—their first lead since the 18:23 mark of the first half.
Elite Efficiency and Defensive Adjustments
Brockport's resurgence was driven by a tale of two halves. After the break, the Golden Eagles found their rhythm, shooting a blistering 52.17% (12-23) from the field and 54.55% (6-11) from beyond the arc. Defensively, they locked down the perimeter, holding the Lions to a mere 16.67% (2-12) from deep in the final 20 minutes.
The Golden Eagles also found success at the charity stripe, finishing 10-of-13 (76.9%) for the game. This mark represented a significant improvement from their recent outing against Washington and Lee, where the team shot just 55.6% from the line.
Star Performers: The Double-Digit Trio
Three Golden Eagles finished in double figures, providing the veteran leadership and production necessary to seal the narrow victory.
- Camron Dyer was a force on both ends of the floor, stuffing the stat sheet with a team-high 15 points on an efficient 5-of-8 shooting. He added two assists, two steals, and two blocks, anchoring the Brockport defense during the Lions' late-game possessions.
- Jacob Oka played a pivotal role in keeping the game within reach during the first half. He scored eight straight points late in the first frame, including a critical three-pointer that snapped a nearly three-minute scoring drought. He finished with 12 points, six rebounds (4 offensive), and three assists.
- Zachary Rice finished the night on the cusp of a double-double, dominating the glass with 8 rebounds. He was relentless in the passing lanes, recording a team-high three steals to go along with his 10 points.
Up Next: The Golden Eagles will look to carry this momentum into the New Year. Brockport returns to The Vlog on Saturday, January 3rd, to host La Roche University. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
