BROCKPORT, NY - The Brockport Women's Basketball came up short at #7-ranked John Carroll, 96-70, on Friday, December 5th. The Golden Eagles fell to 4-4 on the season following the loss in Ohio.
Despite displaying strong three-point shooting throughout (10-24), the Golden Eagles would fall behind 35-19 after 10 minutes and be unable to cut into the deficit. The Blue Streaks would drill nine three pointers (9-14)Â in the first quarter to roll to a 16-point lead entering the second quarter.Â
Claire Turner had a big day defensively, recording four blocks in the first quarter, finishing with five on the day. Turner led all players in blocks and rebounds (13), adding six points in a strong effort.Â
A defensive second quarter would see Brockport only record nine points, taking a 23-point deficit into halftime. The Golden Eagles would play the #7-ranked team in the nation tight in the second half, scoring 42 points to John Carroll's 45 points. Despite outscoring the Blue Streaks 25-20 in the final frame, the clock would run out on the Brockport comeback.
Brianna Carey led all Brockport scorers with 14 points (7-13), adding three rebounds in a strong outing.
Addy VanDewater was excellent off the bench, pouring in 11 points on 60% shooting from beyond the arc (3-5).
Mandy Brink (4 AST, 3-6 3PT) and
Peyton Maneri (5-11 FG, 2 REB) each dropped 12 points to round out the double-figure scorers for Brockport.Â
