BROCKPORT, NY - The Brockport Women's Basketball team team came up short in Saturday's home matchup with Rochester, 75-57, on Saturday, January 3rd. The Golden Eagles dropped to 4-5 following the loss.
Stephanie Jean-Baptiste led all players with 20 points, adding three steals and two assists in an strong all-around performance. Jean-Baptiste moved into fourth all-time on the Brockport Women's Basketball All-Time Scoring List following the contest. Â
The first quarter would prove to be a defensive affair, with the Golden Eagles holding the Yellowjackets to just 33.3% shooting and 12 points across the first 10 minutes. The Brockport offense would be unable to capitalize in the period, with Rochester taking a 12-11 lead into the second quarter. Ineffective shooting would follow the Green and Gold throughout the the contest, finishing the first half shooting just 1-11 from downtown.Â
The Rochester offense would find life in the second quarter, shooting 47% in the period and outscoring Brockport 21-13 to take a nine point lead into halftime. Despite strong defensive efforts from
Jackie Kozakiewicz (3 steals),
Brianna Carey (2 steals), and
Addy VanDewater (2 steals) throughout the contest, the Brockport offense would be unable to stage a comeback.
The second half would see the road team maintain control, scoring 42 second half points to Brockport's 33 to roll to a 75-57 win on the road. The Golden Eagles would cut the Rochester lead to eight in the final frame, but Rochester's constant offense attack would secure them the victory.Â
Claire Turner was excellent on the glass for Brockport, grabbing a game-high 15 rebounds with four points, two blocks, and two steals in a strong all-around effort. Turner's 15 rebounds serves as a career-high following a then career-best 13 rebound performance against John Carroll last game. Â
Mandy Brink rounded out the top scorers for Brockport, finishing with 12 rebounds, four rebounds, and three steals. Â
