Brockport, NY – The women's lacrosse team opened up their season in Ithaca on Sunday, facing a tough 11-3 loss to the Bombers. The Golden Eagles start the season 0-1 following the loss.
Alayna Foos started the season strong with three points, scoring a team-high two goals with one assist, also adding two ground balls.
Hailey Lewkovich also added a goal to round out the scoring for
Brockport
Kaeli McCarthy scooped up four
groundballs, a team high on the day, and goalkeeper
Arianna Reed also added two
groundballs while making 12 saves on the day.
In the opening quarter, Ithaca outscored the Green and Gold 3-1 and began the first up 2-0 until
Foos halted the two-goal lead with her first goal of the season. Ithaca added another goal with less than a minute left in the first quarter.
Brockport followed closely behind Ithaca in the second quarter, scoring a goal early on from Lewkovich with an assist from Foos to cut the lead to 3-2.
Ithaca put up two more goals in response until
Foos returned for more, sending a rocket past the goalkeeper to cut the lead to 5-3 entering halftime.
Both teams displayed quality defense in the third, with just one goal expanding the Ithaca lead to 6-3. The Bombers kept
Brockport off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game, putting up a dominant 5-0 run in the final frame to earn the 11-3 win.
