Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport softball team is set to begin the 2025 campaign down in Florida for its annual Spring Games trip down south. The action begins on Saturday, March 15
th for a pair of contests. The Golden Eagles take on Loras College at 10am before facing New England College later at 2:30pm.

2024 Recap: In 2024 Brockport played its final season as a member of the SUNYAC, and its first season under Head Coach
Mary Karen Wheat. The Golden Eagles went on to complete the year with an 8-28 overall record and a 2-16 mark in the conference. Improving upon the program's 5-27 mark the year prior, Coach Wheat has plans to keep the Golden Eagles trending upward in 2025 in year two at the helm.
Entering the Empire 8: After spending many years competing as a member of the SUNYAC, the Golden Eagles will take their turn in a new conference starting in 2025. They will officially begin play as part of the Empire 8 Conference this season. Opposing schools in this new conference include: Alfred, Elmira, Geneseo, Hartwick, Houghton, Keuka, Nazareth, SUNY Poly, Sage, St. John Fisher, and Utica. E8 play is slated to begin at home on Saturday, March 29
th against Elmira.
E8's Player to Watch: Prior to the start of the season the Empire 8 listed
Olivia Simone as SUNY Brockport's "Player to Watch" heading into the new year. During her first year with Brockport in 2024 she registered a .321 batting average in 36 games started with 17 RBIs, 18 runs, and .359 on base percentage. She led the team offensively with 34 hits, 16 doubles, and a .491 slugging.
Key Returners: Out in the circle, Brockport will see both
Fiona Gibiser and
Hadley Alguire back in action this year. Gibiser was given the ball for seven starts across 22 appearances as a junior in 2024. Pitching 48.1 innings and two complete games, she totaled 22 strikeouts on the season. Alguire made her collegiate debut last year, starting 12 of her 18 games played. Hadley tallied 16 strikeouts across 39.0 innings of work, which included three wins (1 complete game).
The Golden Eagles will be happy to have both
Kellie Gentile and
Riley Barrett returning the lineup. Gentile led the squad with her .369 batting average, .454 on base percentage, and with 14 stolen bases. She was also a staple in the lineup defensively out in center field. Barrett, the left slap hitter, was second on the team with a .329 batting average in 2024. She was also reliable in the field with a .980 field rate last year at second base.
Back Again: This year's team is composed of a large group of veteran players that have been with the program for a few years now. Brockport will be led by the senior class of
Fiona Gibiser,
Olivia Simone,
Grace Talbut,
Jackie DuTot, and
Kellie Gentile. The group of juniors is made up of
Aubrey Ennis,
Caitlyn Dailey,
Erin Dougherty, and
Riley Barrett.
Reagan Myers,
Hadley Alguire,
Natalie Faas,
Ciara Olivo,
Paige Wentland,
Cece Rappleyea, and
Aurora Sabins round out the team as the sophomore returners.
New Faces: The Golden Eagles are also welcoming in six new players to the program this season. The group includes
Laina Beer and
Saylor Ayers, as well as the freshman class of
Isabella Moya,
Colleen Davis,
Scout Preston, and
Teresa Cotty.

Looking Ahead: Following Brockport's trip to Florida for The Spring Games, the Golden Eagles will return to western New York for some action. They will take on Buffalo State for a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday, March 27
th. Game one of the set is scheduled for a 3pm start.
