Softball Takes on Buffalo State Ahead of E8 Opener at Home on Saturday

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport softball team is back up north to resume play after its trip to Florida for The Spring Games. The Golden Eagles will travel take on Buffalo State for a 4pm doubleheader on Thursday. On Saturday they will host Elmira College for their home opener and the start of Empire 8 play.
 
Neutral Site for Thursday: Due to recent weather affecting the home field for the Buffalo State Bengals, this week's non-conference doubleheader will be at a neutral site. Brockport will head to D'Youville University's Dobson Field out in Buffalo, NY for the matchup against the Bengals. First game is set for a 4pm start, with the second game following shortly after the first concludes.
 
Florida Trip Recap: Brockport currently holds a 6-4 record overall after playing the first 10 games of the season down in Florida. After going 1-4 through the first half of the slate, the Golden Eagles closed out the trip with five wins in a row. This current 5-game streak is the program's longest win streak since the 2020 season (8 in a row). In this string of victories, the Brockport bats totaled 47 runs which included 10 or more in four straight contests.
 
Historical Performances: To add to Brockport's strong showing down south, the team also added two new lines to the program record book. In an 11-3 win over Knox College the team hit six triples, setting a new single-game record. Reagan Myers etched her name in individually, tying the single-game mark with two triples on her own.
 
Hits, Hits, Hits: 10 games into the season, four Golden Eagles have already connected for 10 or more hits at the plate.
 
Olivia Simone leads the squad with 14 hits to go with a full line that includes a .400 batting average, 1.078 ops, 11 runs (team-high), three doubles, three triples (team-high), and 10 RBIs. She already has registered five, multi-hit outings this season.
 
Freshman Teresa Cotty is second on the squad with her 12 hits. Early on in her career she has racked up a .414 average, 1.021 ops, four doubles (team-high), and five RBIs.
 
With 11 hits so far, Aubrey Ennis is leading Brockport at the plate in a pair of key categories. She is hitting .423 so far this season and has 12 RBIs, both are tops on the team. Ennis also holds a .967 ops, has three doubles, and is on a 6-game hit streak.
 
Caitlyn Dailey rounds out the double-digit hitters here in the early part of the season. Dailey has 10 hits, is batting .385, scored four runs, and has four RBIs.
 
Bringing the Heat: All four pitchers that have touched the field for Brockport have claimed at least one win so far in 2025. As a group the pitching staff owns a 5.63 ERA and a 2.07 WHIP through 64.2 innings of work.
 
Freshman Colleen Davis (2-3) has been the busiest of the bunch, pitching 27.0 innings across four starts and seven appearances. To go with her pair of wins she earned credit for one save as well, while pitching three complete games on the way to 16 strikeouts.
 
Laina Beer (2-0) has a pair of wins across three appearances and one start, totaling 12.1 innings of action. She leads the pitching staff with a 4.54 ERA and a 1.86 WHIP. Efficient in the circle, Beer has walked just three batters across 60 at-bats.
 
Fiona Gibiser (1-0) has thrown 13.2 innings so far through four outings (3 starts). The senior has one complete game pitched so far, coming against Augsburg when she set a new career-high with eight strikeouts.
 
Hadley Alguire (1-1) has split a pair of pitching decisions through two starts and four appearances in the circle. She owns a 2.14 WHIP and has three strikeouts across 11.2 innings pitched.
 
Golden Eagles vs Bengals: The Buffalo State Bengals will enter this mid-week matchup with a 4-8 record following their spring trip. Trending up, the Bengals won three of their last five games after a 1-5 start. Early on, the big bat in the Buffalo State lineup belongs to Cam O'Hara. She owns a .412 batting average, 1.150 ops, and 14 hits, which includes three home runs and 10 RBIs. Over the last few seasons, the Bengals have gotten the better of the Golden Eagles by winning the last five games in the head-to-head series.
 
Welcome to the Empire 8: Saturday will not only be the home opener for Brockport, but it will also mark the start of a new era for the program. With Elmira coming to town for a doubleheader, starting at 1pm, it will be the first ever Empire 8 Conference outing for the Golden Eagles. After playing in the SUNYAC for many years, they will officially be competing in a brand new conference come this weekend.
 
Looking at Elmira: The Soaring Eagles enter this week at 1-7 overall, with doubleheaders against Marywood University (March 25th) and SUNY Cobleskill (March 28th) on the schedule ahead of Saturday. Entering the week on a four game losing skid, Elmira looks to right the ship ahead of the Empire 8 opener against Brockport. Through the first eight games it has been Jocelyn Jean leading the efforts at the plate with a .320 average and eight hits.
 
Up Next: Following the beginning of conference play at home this weekend, Brockport will have the next week to prepare for two more E8 matchups next weekend. Up first is a trip to Alfred on Friday, April 4th and then the squad will return home on April 5th to host Houghton.
