Men's Lacrosse Comeback Bid Falls Short, Drops E8 Opener Against Hartwick

Brockport, NY - The Brockport men's lacrosse team fell in Empire 8 opener action against Hartwick, 11-9, on Saturday, March 29th. The Golden Eagles fell to 3-5 on the season following the loss and start conference play 0-1.
 
Hartwick would open the scoring just 37 seconds into the first before Nick Maslin would respond with an assist from Tyler Pastore to tie the game at 1-1.  
 
With Hartwick taking a 2-1 lead into the second period, Marc Zappulla would bury Nick Maslin's feed 24 seconds into the second to tie the game at 2-2.
 
The Hawks would control the remainder of the second period, outscoring Brockport 6-2 for the remainder of the period to entering halftime up 8-4. Pierson Jacobs and Daniel Wright would round out the scoring for Brockport in the second.
 
Hartwick would blank the Golden Eagle offense in the third quarter, scoring three goals in the period to go up 11-4 entering the final frame.
 
Brockport would respond with a shutout of their own in the fourth, with goals from Nate Askin, Pierson Jacobs, and Micheal Dowden cutting the lead to 11-7 with 2:34 remaining.
 
Nate Askin would strike again just 33 seconds later, with Marc Zappulla adding an assist to bring Brockport within three goals 11-8.
 
Although Daniel Wright would connect for a goal with five seconds left, the clock would run out on the Golden Eagles' comeback.
 
Jack Acker provided a strong effort in the loss, making 19 saves on the afternoon.
 
Tim Hubbard led all players with four caused turnovers in a strong defensive effort.
 
Nick Maslin led all Golden Eagles with two assists and three points on the day.
 
Up Next: The Golden Eagles will look to bounce back as they head to Geneseo on Wednesday, April 2nd at 4 p.m.
