McGowan's OT Goal Leads Brockport Past Potsdam, 11-10

Brockport, NY- The Brockport men's lacrosse team earned an 11-10 overtime win over SUNY Potsdam on Friday, March 7th. The win moved Brockport to 2-2 to begin the season.
 
Marc Zappulla (3A), Nate Askin (2G, 1A), and Carson Colucci (2G, 1A) all led the Golden Eagles with three points each.
 
Jack Acker provided a performance to remember, making 20 saves in a winning effort.
 
Tyler Pastore, Alex Card, and Tim Hubbard all led Brockport with two caused turnovers.
 
Early in the first, Carson Colucci opened the scoring for Brockport, with Jack Rice providing the assist to go up 1-0. Both teams would trade tallies in the opening period, with Nick Maslin and Pierson Jacobs. Each adding goal to go into the second period tied at 3-3.
 
The Golden Eagles would dominate the second period, scoring four straight goals. Scoring in the period came from Andrew Heins, Peter McGowan, Nate Askin, and Daniel Wright, putting Brockport up 7-3.
 
Andrew Rose would stop the bleeding for the Bears, connecting on an unassisted goal to cut the Brockport lead to 7-4 at the halftime break.
 
Potsdam would come out the break with a run of their own, rattling off three straight tallies to cut the Brockport lead to one. Needing momentum entering the final frame, Pierson Jacobs would bury Marc Zappulla's feed to give Brockport a 9-7 lead entering the fourth.
 
The Bears would control the majority of the final frame, scoring three straight to jump in front 10-9 with just 3:19 left in the contest. Needing a late score, Nate Askin capitalized out of a timeout to tie the game at 10-10 with 25 seconds left.
 
In need of an overtime hero, Askin found freshman Peter McGowan who rose to the occasion with the game-winning goal in overtime to give Brockport the 11-10 overtime win.
 
Patrick Donahoe was excellent on defense for Brockport, scooping up a team-high four ground balls and causing two turnovers.
 
Up Next: The Golden Eagles will look to build momentum as they host Oswego State on Wednesday, March 12th at 4pm.
