Softball Welcomes Poly & Utica for Pair of E8 Doubleheaders

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport softball team is at home this weekend for a pair of crucial Empire 8 doubleheaders. On Saturday, SUNY Poly comes to town for a 1pm start to the set. Brockport will then host Utica on Sunday, starting at 1pm once again.

Last Time Out: The Golden Eagle softball team improved to 10-9 overall and 2-3 in the Empire 8 with a sweep of Keuka in Wednesday's doubleheader on the road. Brockport took game one, 7-5, then finished out the day with a 6-3 victory in game two. Across the two games out in Keuka for this doubleheader, Brockport did not trail at any moment through the 14 innings between the pair of conference foes. After taking two out in Keuka, the Green and Gold has now won four straight heading into a key part of the conference schedule.

No-Hitter Last Weekend: Last weekend on their home field, the Golden Eagles swept Hilbert College in non-conference play. The first game saw some history made, as freshman pitcher Colleen Davis threw a no-hitter against the Hawks. Davis throws the first Brockport no-hitter since Jamie Berger did so against Oneonta back on April 23rd, 2016. Davis retired 10 straight batters to start the game, in what became her first career no-hitter. Going the full 5.0 innings in the circle, Davis allowed no hits, no runs, had four strikeouts, and just two walks.

Big Hitters: 19 games into the 2025 regular season schedule, Brockport currently has four players batting above .300 with two hitting over .400.

Olivia Simone leads the pack with a .439 average to go with 29 hits (team-high), eight doubles (team-high), five triples (team-high), 18 RBIs, and a 1.177 OPS (team-high). She is currently riding the momentum of a seven game hit streak.

Aubrey Ennis has been great as well at the plate, hitting .418 so far this season. She leads the squad with 19 RBIs to highlight her stat line that includes 23 hits, four doubles, and a .912 OPS. Ennis rattled off a 10-game hit streak earlier this season and has jumped back in with hits in the last four games.

Freshman Teresa Cotty has made plenty of noise at the plate in her debut season with the Green and Gold. The first year player is batting .396 with 19 hits, six doubles, one homer, and 11 RBIs. Cotty also boasts a strong OPS of 1.046.

The fourth-leading batter so far for Brockport is Reagan Myers. The catcher is hitting .343 with a 1.048 OPS, 12 hits, one double, three triples, one home run, and nine RBIs. She is one of just two players in the lineup with a slugging percentage of over .600. Myers is at .620 slugging, while Simone is at .712.

Wheeling and Dealing: The Golden Eagles have thrown four different pitchers this season so far. They have combined to earn a 5.10 ERA, 1.89 WHIP, 10-9 record with two saves, and a .320 batting average from opponents.

Freshman Colleen Davis (4-5, 2 S) has seen the most action with 52.0 innings pitched across eight starts and 12 appearances. She has thrown six complete games with one shutout and one no-hitter.

Laina Beer (3-1) owns the best ERA among the Brockport pitchers with a 3.18 across 22.0 innings pitched. Beer also has the top WHIP on the team with a 1.86 so far through seven appearances and two starts.

Senior Fiona Gibiser (2-0) is yet to receive a losing decision through four starts and seven outings in the circle. She is second among the Brockport pitching staff with 15 strikeouts across 20.0 innings of work (1 complete game).

Hadley Alguire (1-3) rounds out the Golden Eagle pitching rotation. Alguire has been given the ball for five starts in her eight showings on the rubber. She has been called on for 24.0 innings pitched, which includes one complete game.

Speed on the Bases: A trio of Golden Eagles have caused problems for opposing teams while running the bases. Erin Dougherty, Kellie Gentile, and Riley Barrett are a combined 24-24 on stolen bases in 2025. Dougherty leads the way with 11 swipes, while Gentile has seven and Barrett has six so far. As a team, Brockport is 39-43 on steal attempts this year.

Brockport Trending Up: Currently at 10-9 overall and 2-3 in the Empire 8, second-year Head Coach Mary Karen Wheat has the Golden Eagles trending up compared to the last few seasons. In 2025, Brockport has already surpassed its 2024 win total (8) and tied its win total in conference play (2). The Golden Eagles already have their most wins since 2022, when the team finished 13-19, with plenty of games left on the schedule to continue improving upon that feat.

Weekend Opponents: The SUNY Poly Wildcats will enter the doubleheader on Saturday with a record of 8-5 overall and 2-0 in conference play. They recently swept Keuka College, picking up wins of 8-3 and 5-3 against the Wolves to start E8 competition. Watch out for #10 Shelbi Hagues at the plate, as she enters the weekend batting .405.

The Utica University Pioneers will be taking on Geneseo for a two-game set on Saturday before coming to Brockport for Sunday's slate. Utica enters the weekend at 2-0 in the Empire 8 and 7-5 overall in 2025 so far. The Pioneers' big bat is #11 Brooke Beleza, who is currently batting .429 this season.

Up Next: On Monday, April 14th the Golden Eagles will resume play from March 29th's suspended game against Elmira (rained out). The score was a 5-2 advantage for Elmira in the third inning, which is where the game will pick up on Monday at 3pm.
