Women's Lacrosse Celebrate Senior Day With a Win

Brockport, NY – The women's lacrosse team celebrated senior day with a huge 21-3 win today on home turf against the Russell Sage Gators. Today's victory brings the team to 6-8 overall and 5-2 in the conference. 

Prior to the start of the matchup, the Ladybros celebrated six of their seniors including student coach Ashley Hershfield, Julia Barnwell, Sarah Kilburn, Paige Thowe, Alayna Foos, and Devin Tietjen

Team Leaders - Alayna Foos had a day leading the team in goals with five, adding on an assist for six points and picking up a groundball. Karaline McCarthy also brought the heat with three goals and six assists for nine points and picked up two groundballs. 

Tristan Davis had three goals with two assists, Hailey Lewkovich added three goals, Paige Thowe put up two goals and an assist, Journey Naab and Sarah Kilburn tied for two goals, and Payton Tyszka added one goal on the day. Amanda Evans added in two assists and Maura Langdon put up one assist. 

Arianna Reed and Makenna Cady were between the pipes for the Golden Eagles with Reed making two saves and Cady adding on one save. 

Game Recap – Sage opened up the scoring book for the game putting in a quick goal to start. Brockport almost immediately halted the lead with two quick goals, one from Lewkovich and one from Kilburn. Sage tied up the game shortly after with a goal until Foos came in putting Brockport back on top. Before the end of the first Davis made her first of the day with an assist from McCarthy and Sage went on to close out the quarter with one more score. 

The Golden Eagles had full control in the second, outshooting the Gators 9-0. Thowe started off the quarter finding the back of the net with an assist from Davis with Davis making two of her own both assisted by McCarthy. Foos snuck the ball past the goalkeeper from Evans and McCarthy did the same shortly after. Lewkovich added in another bringing the Green and Gold to double digits and Foos kept it going with one more. McCarthy found the back of the net twice to close out the first half 13-3 with assists from Davis and Foos. 

Coming back from the halftime break, the Ladybros kept the momentum going with Foos starting it off with a quick score assisted by McCarthy. Kilburn was up next with an assist from McCarthy and Tyszka put her first of the day in also assisted by McCarthy. Naab had a successful free position opportunity for Brockport's first of the day. Closing out the third quarter was Foos with a rocket to the back of the net with an assist from Evans. 

The Green and Gold were up 18-3 going into the fourth with Thowe making it 19 to start off strong. Naab made her second goal of the day with an assist from Evans and closing out the game was Lewkovich with an assist from Langdon taking Brockport to the 21-3 victory. 

Coming Up – The Golden Eagles are back in action next week on Wednesday, April 23rd where they will travel to Nazareth University starting at 4pm and will be back home to face Keuka College at 1pm on Saturday, April 26th for the last Empire 8 matchup before the first round of the E8 Championships.
