Women's Lacrosse Falls Short on Home Turf to Geneseo

Brockport, NY – The women's lacrosse team fell short against Geneseo on home turf today. The Knights took home the strong 16-9 win in the tough matchup. The Golden Eagles are now 2-7 overall and 1-1 in conference play. 

The Green and Gold got up on the board to start the first quarter with Alayna Foos taking the first shot and goal from a free position. Geneseo halted the 1-0 lead quick and Brockport responded with three more goals. Hailey Lewkovich put one in from Alaynda Foos then Lewkovich added a second from a free position shot. Alayna Foos had the last giving the team a 3-score lead until the Knights came in hot ending the period with three goals and taking the lead. 

Brockport fought back hard starting the second quarter with three scores. Hailey Lewkovich found the back of the net from Sarah Kilburn and Kilburn went on to make two more of her own both assisted by Amanda Evans. Geneseo responded with two quick goals to tie up the game until Karaline McCarthy put the team back on top with an assist from Tristan Davis. Ending out the second period yet again was the Knights adding two more to their total of nine compared to Brockport's eight. 

Coming back from halftime, the Knights took control of the third quarter outscoring the Green and Gold 3-0 putting them up 12-8. 

Brockport found some momentum starting off the fourth with a quick goal from Sarah Kilburn assisted by Karaline McCarthy. The Golden Eagles attempted the comeback but came up short as Geneseo finished off the game with control scoring four more goals taking the 16-9 lead. 

Sarah Kilburn led the team with three goals and one assist for four points. Hailey Lewkovich also had three goals for three points and Alayna Foos also acquired three points from two goals and one assist. In net for Brockport was Arianna Reed with a total of 15 saves on the day. 

Up Next – The team will be back defending home turf against SUNY Poly this Saturday, April 5th for a 1pm start on the A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field.
