Sanchez's OT Goal Lifts Brockport Over Allegheny

BROCKPORT, N.Y - The Brockport field hockey team opened the 2025 season with a 2-1 overtime victory over Allegheny on Friday, August 29th, from Dr. Linda Arena Field. The Golden Eagles moved to 1-0 to begin the season following the home opener victory.

The Gators would strike early, taking a 1-0 lead into the second period thanks to Caroline Smith's first goal of the season with 2:14 left in the opening frame. Allegheny would control the majority of the first half, outshooting the Golden Eagles 7-3 in the first 30 minutes of play.

The Gators would look to double their advantage in the second period, but sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Mastromarco would make a trio of saves to keep the Gators' lead at 1-0 entering halftime.

Despite recording just one shot in the third, Brockport would tie the contest at 1-1, thanks to Cassidy Pado's unassisted tally at the 39:15 mark of the contest. Both defenses would control the fourth quarter, with both teams recording just one shot each to send the game to overtime.

Following two clutch saves from Mastromarco, the Golden Eagles would secure the golden goal in overtime. In her first game wearing the Green and Gold, Ava Sanchez would bury an excellent pass from Terralyn McLaughlin to give Brockport the 2-1 home opener victory.

Lauren Mastromarco (W, 1-0) was excellent in her first career start, making six saves with just one goal allowed to lead Brockport to the win.

Ava Sanchez impressed in her first outing with the Golden Eagles, leading the squad with two shots on goal and adding the golden goal in OT to give the Green and Gold the victory.

With the victory, the Golden Eagles have secured a win in season opener action for the ninth straight season.

Up Next: The Golden Eagles will return to home turf to take on Juniata on Sunday, August 31st at 1 pm.
