BROCKPORT, N.Y- The Brockport Field Hockey capped off its home opener weekend with a 4-3 victory over Juniata College on Sunday, August 31st. The Golden Eagles moved to 2-0 on the weekend following the win.
Brockport would apply pressure early and often in the opening frame, holding the Eagles without a shot and producing two scoring chances across five shots. Freshman
Makenna Hart would cash in for the Green and Gold at the 9:43 mark of the first, scoring the contest's opening goal and giving Brockport a 1-0 lead entering the second period.
Despite outshooting Juniata 5-2 in the second quarter, the Eagles would find the equalizer to tie the game at 1-1 entering halftime. Jane Corbin would get Juniata on the board before Sophia Ganley would give her squad the lead at the 41:40 mark of the contest.
Down 2-1 in the third period, Brockport was quick to respond, scoring the game's next three goals. Junior
Sophia Jones scored her first goal of the season to tie the game at 2-2, before fourth-period goals from
Makenna Hart (2) and Elsie Brady gave Brockport a two-goal lead in the final frame.
Juniata would add a goal in the fourth to cut Brockport's lead to one, but the Golden Eagles would hold on to secure the victory on home turf.
Terralyn McLaughlin was excellent throughout, providing strong defense while adding an assist and a shot on goal in a strong effort.
Cassidy Pado and
Sophia Jones (1G) each added three shots on net in strong outings.
Makenna Hart led the way for Brockport, leading all players with four shots on goal and two goals in a standout offensive performance.
Brockport would finish the contest with a 21-6 shot advantage, producing 15 shots on goal.
