Golden Eagles Blank Oneonta 3-0 to Finish Out Opening Weekend

Oneonta, NY – The Brockport women's soccer team finished up opening weekend with a strong 3-0 shutout against the Oneonta Red Dragons, putting the squad to 1-0-1 overall on the 2025 season.

The pressure was high throughout the first period but was no problem for Brockport as they snuck in two back-to-back goals with just minutes remaining.  Putting up her first goal of the season and of the day was Amelia Breton, with an assist from Caitlin Nelson. The connection between Nelson and Breton was found again with Nelson taking the shot just 40 seconds later from Breton.

Coming back after the halftime break, the second period was much like the first with a battle of shots from both teams. Brockport outshot Oneonta 7-5, keeping the high momentum. Yet again, just minutes before time was up, McKenna Slate found the back of the net taken from a pass by Breton, to blank the Red Dragons 3-0.

In net for the first half of the matchup was Emily McCane making a save for the team. Madeline McCrosson took her part in defending in between the pipes with a total of three saves, and Karissa Champion finished out the game for the Green and Gold.

It was a strong three-point outing for junior Amelia Breton, also adding three shots on goal. Caitlin Nelson followed shortly behind with two points, also adding a shot on goal. Felicity Contento, Elyssa Barnhart, McKenna Slate, and Madyson Whalen each contributed with a shot on goal. Lyndsey Miller also made a strong effort, helping to defend for a full 90 minutes.

Coming Up – The Golden Eagles are set to host Buffalo State for the home opener on Saturday, September 6th at 12pm where they will also be celebrating Girls Youth Soccer Day.
