Box Score Fredonia, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's tennis team kicked off the 2025 season with a commanding 6-1 victory over the Fredonia Blue Devils. This marks the first time since the 2021 season that the Golden Eagles have secured a win in their first match of the year.
The Golden Eagles set the tone early with a dominant performance in doubles, sweeping all three matches to secure the first point of the day.
In first doubles, veteran Olivia Raschiatore and Cara Vasile made quick work of their opponents, earning a swift 6-1 victory.
The second doubles match saw a hard-fought battle, but the duo of Olivia Chiu and Leah Banes prevailed in a close 7-6 contest.
Completing the doubles sweep, the third doubles team of Kathleen Rogers and freshman Gianna Masker defeated their opponents 6-1, securing all three doubles wins for the Golden Eagles.
Brockport carried its momentum into singles play, with five of the six players picking up wins to seal the 6-1 victory.
In the first singles, senior Olivia Chiu was lights out, taking home a dominant shutout 6-0, 6-0 victory.
Cara Vasile picked up her second win of the day in second singles, fighting for a three-set victory after dropping the first set, 2-6, 7-5, 10-3.
Freshman Leah Banes made a huge impact in her collegiate debut, picking up a dominant win in third singles with a 6-0, 6-1 showing.
Erin McMichael also fought back for a three-set win, dropping the first set but winning the final two to earn a 2-6, 6-0, 6-0 victory in fourth singles.
Closing out the day with the final win for Brockport, Madison Ballone secured her win in fifth singles with a 6-0, 6-3 final score.
