Rochester, NY – The Golden Eagle volleyball team swept the competition on Saturday at the RIT Tri-Match to improve to 5-4 overall on the season. Brockport defeated Alfred State, 3-1, and RIT, 3-1, for a 2-0 showing in Rochester on Saturday.
Brockport 3, Alfred State 1 – Match 1 Final
The first set belonged to the Golden Eagles in a hard-fought, 26-24, battle. Alfred State then bounced back with a 25-20 win in the second to tie the match up at 1-1. Brockport then won the third set, 25-21, and the fourth set, 25-16, to earn the 3-1 win.
Madisen Jones led the team with 16 kills in the match, while
Alexis Sison had 12 and
Luba Butcher had 10.
Kaitlyn Jewett registered 37 assists from her setter spot.
Butcher tied
Gianna Felipe for the team-lead with 14 digs to go with 13 from Sison.
Maddy Howell and
Madisen Jones both finished with three block assists.
Brockport 3, RIT 1 – Match 2 Final
The hosting Tigers took the first set of the match, 25-17, before the Golden Eagles went on a tear. They would take the next three sets to earn the 3-1 win by scores of 25-22, 25-14, and 25-20.
Alexis Sison had 12 kills to pace the offensive effort, with
Luba Butcher close behind with 11.
Kaitlyn Jewett totaled 33 assists connecting with her teammates.
Defensively,
Grace Ippoliti was busy with 10 digs for a team-high in the match.
Maddy Howell got up for five total blocks in the middle (1 solo, 4 assisted).
The Golden Eagles are back on the road next weekend to compete at the Oswego State Invitational on September 19
th and 20
th.
