Brockport, NY- The Brockport women's tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss at The Nest to the St. John Fisher Cardinals on Friday, September 19th, in E8 play. The Golden Eagles' record now stands at 2-3, including a 1-2 mark in conference play.
The Golden Eagles started the day strong, sweeping all three doubles matches to earn the first point.Â
The first doubles team of Cara Vasile and Olivia Raschiatore set the tone with a resounding 6-2 win, followed by Leah Banes and Olivia Chiu with an equally impressive 6-2 victory.
The clean sweep was sealed for the Golden Eagles by the third doubles team of Gianna Masker and Erin McMichael, who made quick work of their opponents 6-1.
Brockport was only able to secure one point in singles play, as the Cardinals' singles lineup turned the tide.Â
Cara Vasile lost the first singles to Lilly Renzi (6-1, 6-2).
In the second singles, Leah Banes dropped back-to-back sets against Adriana Colafranceschi (6-0, 6-2).
Olivia Chiu was defeated by Lily Miller in the third singles (6-0, 6-1).
Erin McMichael fell short in the fourth singles (6-2, 6-1) against Isabella Busch.
In the fifth singles, Madison Ballone lost a hard-fought three-set match after pushing her opponent, Paige Kopolow, to a decisive third set before falling in a 10-8 tiebreak (6-1, 4-6, 10-8).
To finish out singles play, Gianna Masker was able to secure her second win of the day and the second point for the Golden Eagles with a quick (6-1, 6-2) victory against Anna Exford.
