Box Score Rochester, NY – The Brockport women's tennis team traveled to Rochester to face the Nazareth Golden Flyers on Friday, September 26th, suffering a 7-0 setback in Empire 8 action. The team's overall record now stands at 2-4, with a 1-3 mark in conference play.
The afternoon started with a close fight in doubles matches. The Golden Eagles managed to secure a win at the third doubles match, where Gianna Masker and Kathleen Rogers delivered a solid performance, securing a 6-4 victory over Paige Masrouri and Isabella Iannitti. However, the Golden Flyers claimed the overall doubles point by taking the top two flights. Kenna Ellis and Catherine Zak shut out Cara Vasile and Olivia Raschiatore 6-0 at first doubles, while Anna Spencer and Victoria Cioni defeated the second pairing of Olivia Chiu and Leah Banes 6-1.
Nazareth's momentum continued into the singles action, though several Golden Eagles pushed their opponents to the limit.
At the top of the lineup, Cara Vasile (0-6, 0-6) and Leah Banes (4-6, 0-6) were bested by Catherine Zak and Kenna Ellis at first and second singles.
Olivia Chiu was defeated 2-6, 1-6 by Anna Spencer in the third singles.
In fourth singles action, Erin McMichael fell short to Victoria Cioni (1-6, 0-6).
Madison Ballone found herself in a tight contest in the fifth singles match against Paige Masrouri, as she lost the first set tiebreaker 6-7, and dropped the second set 4-6 in a hard-fought match.
The toughest battle of the day came at the sixth singles spot, where Gianna Masker staged a tough rally against Isabella Iannitti. After dominating the first set 6-2, Masker dropped the second set 4-6. The deciding third set was a nail-biter, where Masker fell 6-7.
